Peseiro provides Troost-Ekong with an injury update prior to the Guinea-Bissau qualifiers.

Jose Peseiro, the Super Eagles’ head coach, has said that William Troost-Ekong, his captain, may not play in the upcoming qualifying doubleheader against Guinea-Bissau for the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations.

Since suffering an injury in Salernitana’s Serie A match against Hellas Verona in the middle of February, Troost-Ekong has been out of action.

The statement from Salernitana said that the center back won’t play for two weeks.

However, the 29-year-old is still recovering from the injury and is unlikely to play for Nigeria against the Djurtus this month.

Our captain is him. I realize he truly needed to come and play. He often told me. Peseiro told Sportitalia that he keeps in touch with the Nigerian players’ trainers and coaches.

“Those of Ekong have informed me that he is putting in a lot of effort, despite the fact that there is not much chance of taking him with us to the subsequent games. Additionally, my friend Paulo Sousa confirmed this for me.

Next week, Peseiro is expected to announce his team for the qualifiers.

On Friday, March 24, the Super Eagles will play host to the Djurtus in the first leg at Abuja’s Moshood Abiola Stadium.

Three days later, the opposite match will take place in Bissau.
