Applicant are invited to apply for the Clarendon Oxford University Scholarship 2024. This is a fully-funded UK Scholarship program for international students. The Oxford University scholarship is open to undertaking a Master’s or DPhil course. There is no separate application required for the scholarship 2024.

Full-time applicants

Our scholarships are open to all subject areas and to all candidates who apply for a new Master’s or DPhil course by the December or January admissions deadline, whichever is relevant to your course.

Benefits of University of Oxford Clarendon Fully-funded Scholarship

Value

Clarendon scholarships cover course fees in full. This applies to Home and Overseas fee status students.
Scholars on a full-time course will receive an annual grant for living expenses of at least the minimum Research Council doctoral stipend rate, which is normally sufficient to cover the living costs of a single student living in Oxford. In 2024-24, you should expect to receive at least £17,668.

Duration

Clarendon scholarships are normally offered for the full period of fee liability. This is the period for which you are liable to pay course fees to the University. The fee liability page explains this in full, and also gives information about charges that may be applied after this period, known as continuation charges, which are not covered by the Clarendon Fund.
In some cases the academic division has the discretion to extend your scholarship to cover an additional period of study where the course is known to require additional time. The extension period applies to living expenses only and not to any continuation charges. Scholars will be notified in their offer letter if an extension to funding is provided.

Nationality or Ordinary Residence

There are no restrictions by nationality or country of ordinary residence.

Level of study

All full-time DPhil and Master’s courses are eligible, as long as you have applied by the relevant January deadline for your course.

Subject area

Clarendon supports scholars from across the University, with no restrictions on subject area.

Other criteria

Candidates applying to start a new DPhil or Master’s course at Oxford are eligible. This includes students who are currently studying for a Master’s degree at Oxford but who will be re-applying for a DPhil or applying for a second Master’s course.

Deferred offers or current students

Applicants who hold a deferred graduate offer are not eligible to be considered for this scholarship.

Current students who will continue to study for the same degree at Oxford in the next year are not eligible for this scholarship.

Selection criteria vary slightly depending on the subject area and whether applicants apply for a taught or research degree.

As a guideline, applications are assessed against the following criteria:

Outstanding academic record

An excellent academic record is essential. The majority of successful scholars usually have at least a first class honours degree or its equivalent. For example a GPA score of at least 3.7, if the mark if out of 4, noting that a lot of the Clarendon scholars achieve higher than this score. Or an applicant must have an outstanding academic record at Master’s level, noting that an exceptional Master’s degree can compensate for a moderate first degree performance. Requirements may vary between disciplines and from year to year depending on the strength of the field.

Future potential and aptitude

Particular consideration is given to an applicant’s future academic potential and aptitude of the proposed course of study. This may be assessed by reviewing references and research proposals to determine evidence of an applicant’s aptitude for research, and the likelihood of contributing significantly to the field of study.

Student motivation

This is assessed through evidence of the applicant’s commitment to the proposed course as well as evaluation of the personal statement and the referees’ reports.

Divisional Allocation of Clarendon Scholarships

The process varies between the University’s academic divisions and the Department for Continuing Education, but each meet in February or March to review the departmental scholarship nominations.
The academic divisions assess the nominations on their academic merit and future potential and the top ranked departmental nominees within the division are shortlisted for Clarendon.
Once the shortlist is confirmed, the Clarendon Fund Administrator will contact successful applicants and will provide the scholarship offer letter (aka a ‘CB1’).
If you are offered (and accept) a Clarendon scholarship, this means your funding is now secure, as long as you meet the conditions of your offer of a place to study at Oxford.
During April, May and sometimes into June, Clarendon Partnership Awards are matched to scholars depending on the award requirements. No further information is required of Clarendon offer holders.
Once each scholar’s unique funding package is confirmed, they will receive the funding breakdown letter (aka a ‘CB2’) outlining the funding arrangements. Final college placements will also be confirmed alongside partnership awards.

Notification of Clarendon Scholarship Decisions

All successful Clarendon candidates will be contacted via email. Most offers are sent out by the end of April of each year.
Due to the number of eligible applicants, unsuccessful students will not be contacted. If you have not heard from us by mid-June, please assume that unfortunately you have not been awarded a Clarendon scholarship.
A few late nominations may take place during the summer period if nominated students withdraw.

University of Nottingham Research and Anne McLaren fellowships Courses

STEM

Requirements for University of Nottingham Research and Anne McLaren fellowships Qualification

Candidates must have been awarded their PhD – or equivalent such as postgraduate MD/DM for clinical applicants – prior to the closing date for registering interest in the scheme by 6 October 2024.

This scheme is aimed at early career researchers, and candidates who do not normally have more than eight years’ post-doctoral experience. However, there are no eligibility rules based on years of post-doctoral experience as this doesn’t allow for variations of career paths across disciplines. Candidates will be assessed on their quality, potential, trajectory and track record, relative to their career stage.

We invite applications from all academic disciplines across the university. Candidates for the Anne McLaren fellowships must be pursuing a career in a STEM subject. Female researchers are typically under-represented in STEM subjects and female applicants are strongly encouraged.

Candidates should be able to demonstrate:

An outstanding track record of research for their career stage and discipline, including high-quality publications, research funding and/or prizes and awards
Evidence of a growing reputation, both nationally and internationally
An aptitude to lead and inspire others within the research team and institution more broadly
Potential to act as an ambassador in their research field and more widely

Part-time appointments will be considered on a pro-rata basis. Candidates are not normally expected to have a permanent position, as they may be considered to have achieved the aims of the scheme already. The University of Nottingham will act as sponsor for any candidate who does not have the right to work in the UK.

Applications are accepted from talented candidates from Imperial College London, the UK and worldwide. There are no restrictions on nationality.
Candidates must be among the highest achievers in their undergraduate cohort, and in receipt of, or due to receive a first class UK degree or equivalent.
Candidates with a standalone Master’s qualification must have achieved a distinction or, where this has yet to have been achieved, be able to provide evidence of high performance that will lead to a distinction. They must also hold a first class UK undergraduate degree or equivalent (integrated Masters that form part of an undergraduate degree, e.g. MEng, MSci, M.Math, are assessed by Admissions as an undergraduate qualification when determining eligibility). Candidates with multiple standalone Master’s qualifications must have achieved a distinction in the one most relevant to their PhD study.
Candidates with degrees from overseas institutions are strongly urged to determine if their scores/grades are equivalent to the relevant eligibility criteria.
Prior to applying candidates must have made contact with a supervisor in an academic department at Imperial College London who has agreed to supervise their research project. Screening Date and Process for Imperial College London

Selection Process:

Candidates meeting or predicted to meet the eligibility requirements will be reviewed by the Department to which they have applied. Departments will select a shortlist of the very best candidates to present to the Imperial College Selection Panel for consideration.
The final decision will be made by the Imperial College Selection Panel. The members of the panel are the Vice-Provost (Research) and the Faculty Vice-Deans for Research. The Panel will consider shortlisted candidates from all Faculties. Scholarships will be awarded to the candidates who show the most potential.

Successful candidates will receive written confirmation of their scholarship. Any offer of a PhD place will be conditional on final interview by the Department and (if applicable) on the candidate receiving the predicted qualifications.

Applicants not selected for the scholarship will automatically be considered for the PhD.

When prompted for a personal statement you must ensure that it consists of approx. 1000 words (maximum 2 pages) and outlines your academic and research achievements to date, explaining in brief your planned research project.
